Jeff is groggy the next morning and he's not sure why his
whole body aches. Suddenly it hits him and he can't believe that
it's real. His ex wife doesn't want it to be known that they were
married or that they had kids. He couldn't wrap his brain around
it. Was it something about him? He knew that he had a beautiful
wife now, but only after serious trouble and effort. Was there
something about him that turned them off? God, how was he
going to tell the kids? Should he tell the kids? He still didn't know
and now he had to get to work.
Angie could barely keep her eyes open. All night, Jeff had
tossed and turned, his mind heavy with what Diane was asking
of him. She knew that he would give it to her, if only to spare the
kids, but Angie just didn't get it. Why would any mother want to
give up her kids for a man? And now, looking at the papers,
Angie could see that the wedding was going to be huge. How
were they going to tell the kids? She knew Jeff didn't want to, but
they weren't going to be able to hide it forever. She sighed.
Diane was such a bitch!
It's taken a few weeks, but they have come up with a plan on how
to tell the kids. Angie cooks a huge dinner, the kids favorite.
Taking a deep breath, she heads into the dining room.
Dinner goes by smoothly, until the end. Jeff stands from the
table and clears his throat. He looks both kids in the eyes and
waits for their attention.
Jeff: I have something to tell everyone.
The kids look up, but Angie keeps her head down, fork
poised over her plate.
Jeff: You mother...is getting married.

The kids look at each other, then him.: Are we in the wedding?
Jenner's face lights up at the thought. She's been trying to
play it cool all this time, acting as if she didn't mind her mother's
abandonment, but Jeff knew better and he knew that what he
was going to say next would crush Her.

Jeff: Honey...your mother...has asked me for an annulment.

Jennifer looked at him puzzled, but Daniel's eyes hardened in
instant. His son was always a quick one.
Jennifer: What does that mean?

Daniel look at her: It's means she was never married to daddy.

Jennifer still had the puzzled look on her face: I don't get it.

Jeff coughed and opened his mouth to speak, but Daniel
beat him to it.: It means she doesn't want anyone to know that we
were her kids you dummy!

Jeff: Daniel, don't call her that!
He snapped, angered that his wifes cruelty was overflowing
into his home life.

Daniel threw down his fork and jumped from the table.: I'm
going to bed!
He yelled, running to his room and slamming the door
behind him.

Jennifer's lips trembled and she stared from Jeff to Angie.: It's
her fault isn't it?

Jeff stared at her, his mouth agape: Who are you talking about
honey?
Angie didn't look up. She knew who she was talking about it
and it hurt her deep to her soul to hear those words.

Jennifer: you got married and had a baby and now mom doesn't
want us anymore. It's her fault! I wish you had never come here!
Angie screamed and ran from the table.
Jeff called after her, but the door slammed on his words. He
sighed and slumped to the table: Well, that went well.

Angie smiled weakly and got up from the table.
Angie stayed in the kitchen a long time, staring at the cake
she'd made. She heard Jeff leave the house and the car start up.
She stayed still, her body frozen.
Jeff came back a few house later, finding Angie lounging in a
bath of purple water.
Jeff: honey, you know that Jennifer didn't mean it.

Angie sighed and closed her eyes: I'm not really in the mood to
talk right now Jeff.

Jeff stared down at her, unsure of the mood that was on
them. Her voice was quiet and devoid of any emotion. He didn't
know what to say, so he left the room. Freakin Diane.
